Happy Endings!

~Comet / Henry~

This is Comet, his new Mom and Dad named him Henry. Henry was found under the shelter one Sunday morning in December, after we heard a kitten crying outside. He was a healthy, and very active kitten. Very vocal! Henry was adopted by a wonderful young, newly married couple who took him home and just adored him. But after a few days, he stopped eating and got very sick.

After thousands of dollars, a blood transfusion and sleepless nights Henry finally kicked the virus he had, and to the surprise of the doctors he started getting stronger and better every day. Now healthy and happy, Henry is in his forever home where he is loved and spoiled. I cannot thank his parents enough for never giving up on him, and giving him what he most needed to pull through,  UNCONDITIONAL LOVE.

~Samson / Jack~

This is Samson (renamed Jack) when he came to us at the shelter....Someone had left him to die from a severe flea infestation. This damage wasn't done overnight, it took months of ignoring the problem and finally, he was abandoned by someone who just did not care enought to get him the medical attention he so deserved.

Samson didn't move for days when he first came to us and when he did, it was only to scratch and bite himself for relief of the pain and itching. His skin was raw and his fur was almost completely gone.

After medicine, flea treatment and a well deserved bath, he started to show us his awesome personality. He is a love. Very affectionate and so sincere in his need to want to be near someone, anyone who would give him attention.

He was adopted into a wonderful, loving and supportive family that have shown us all what love can do. It has healed Samson (aka Jack) and shown him that not all people are bad. Jack lives a good life now, going to work everyday with his owner and waiting for his best friend to return from school each day. We are so proud of him, and we are all grateful to his new owners for showing this dog the real life that he deserved. The second chance he needed.

~Peaches~

This beautiful cat came to us from a feral colony in the town. She was extremely agitated and we were unable to approach her for about 3 weeks. After we could finally touch her, we realized she was pregnant. She was just a baby herself, only about 5-6 months old, and she was about to become a Mom....

She had her babies, and the Animal Control Officer found them on the floor of the cat room dying, Peaches in the corner petrified of what had just happened to her and not knowing what to do. Her kittens survived, only dying afterwards of an upper respiratory infection that Peaches had gotten. We were all devastated for the loss of her babies, and Peaches was very confused.

Peaches just got better each day afterwards, and we put her up for adoption. She is now in a very loving, indoor home where she is very spoiled and happy. She showed us all that she, as a stray and a feral came around and entered the "pet" life that so many other ferals never do. We are so happy and proud of Peaches. It gives us hope for more ferals in the future.

~Tipper~

Tipper was found abandoned by her owner when the owner moved out of her house and never returned for her. Tipper remained for days, alone and without food waiting for her owner to return. She never did. But, thankfully concerned neighbors heard her cries and called the Animal Control. Tipper had an ear infection that had gotten very bad, and never received treatment. She scratched so hard, that she broke vessels in her ear and it bent it to the point of it never healing upright again.

A very nice man who was volunteering his time to build our new quarantine area, noticed Tipper and asked why she had been there so long and not adopted. I told him that because of her ear injury, she wasn't the "perfect" cat and that was keeping people from adopting her. He then called his wife to come meet her. They both feel in love with her, and adopted her right away! She is living in a loving, safe home where she will no longer be judged for what she looks like, but how much of an affectionate, and adorable cat she is. Thanks to Harold and his wife for giving this special kitty a second chance.

~Jet~

- Told by Larna Grossi, President & Founder

This beautiful shepherd belonged to a very irresponsible owner, who for 10 years had him tied to a tree in her backyard. Jet never knew what a set of stairs were. He didn't know what the sound of a phone ringing or a blow dryer was. Instead, he lived his life outside in the winter and summer, each year...over and over for 10 years. His collar was too small and it grew into his neck, causing constant pain and infection to him.

After 10 years of trying to get the owner to turn him into the shelter, she decided to give him to us because he was too old and she had run into some problems with the law. When Jet finally came to us, he was in pain and riddled with arthritis from laying out on the cold ground year after year. One of our volunteers, and also PETS of NEW ENGLAND's Vice President Katie Cabral, grew fond of him and showed him what it was to be loved and to be safe. She taught him trust through they're friendship. Katie walked Jet for hours....just allowing him to walk wherever he wished and smell all the new smells that he could never reach when he was tied to a tree in a small backyard.

A friend of my fiancé had just lost her beloved dog of many years and she was grieving the loss of him. Her other dog was mourning the loss of him also, and she was sure he should have a companion and friend. She didn't want a young dog, or puppy because the other dog was older. After hearing of Jet, and his story she decided to meet and decide with the help of her friend, if Jet would be the dog that they yearned for and a friend for her remaining dog.

Jet went home that night with his new owners. Watching him drive off and setting off for a new and wonderful life, I cried. He left the shelter, and the life that he had barely lived for 10 long years far behind him and never to ever have to look back on the heartache, the loneliness and suffering he endured for so long.

Jet is adored and spoiled. He is loved and above all he is safe from harm. He is warm in the winter and cooled in the summer. He has toys, so many toys. And he has his dog friend, Mikey. Now, when I think of Jet, I think of not how long he had suffered, but how much unconditional love he will receive in the time he has left.

~Blanca~

- Told by Larna Grossi, President & Founder

Blanca was found a stray wandering the streets lost and hungry. When she first came to the shelter,  we thought for sure that her owner would be looking for her, so we waiting but sadly no one ever came looking for Blanca....

We knew immediately she was a great little girl and worked diligently in getting her a new home. But, because she is a pitbull she sat a long time waiting for a good home that would keep her safe from harm and be educational in teaching people how good she was.

Blanca was the poster child of good pitbulls and despite what people "think" they know about pitbulls, she was a wonderful, loving and affectionate girl. She always "smiled". She was always happy.

Blanca was adopted to Dan, a wonderful and caring man who adores her because she adds so much laughter and fun into his life.  "There is never a dull moment with her!", he quotes. Dan's Dad lives with them and because of a stroke he is unable to pronounce certain letters. Her new name is now Bossy, and she seems to like it!

We are grateful for Dan giving Blanca the second chance she so deserved and for not seeing the "pitbull" in her but rather seeing the beautiful little girl that she is.

~Nikita and her puppies~

- Told by Larna Grossi, President & Founder

This beautiful girl is Nikita! She came to the shelter a stray, wandering the streets hungry and alone. We looked for her owner for weeks, but surprisingly no one claimed her. She was the best dog we had ever had in all the years I have been at the shelter.....unbelievable dog. What a love she was, so well behaved and friendly.

PETS of NEW ENGLAND was planning on having her spayed because she is a purebred and we did not want anyone breeding her after they adopted her, but Nikita had a little surprise for all of us....she was PREGNANT!!

After having 6 beautiful puppies on November 4th and 6 weeks later, she was ready to go to her new home. She has found a wonderful family who love her very much and have taught her to walk on a leash while walking with the baby each morning. Nikita is a very lucky girl. All Nikita's puppies, including Moose (pictured below) who was the first born have gotten safe and loving homes just in time for Christmas!

Thanks to Kerrie and family for giving Nikita a wonderful home and the second chance she deserved.
Thanks to all the wonderful people who have given all of the puppies a safe and loving forever home.
Thanks to all who donated blankets, towels, food and toys.
Thank you to all my volunteers for giving the puppies lots of love and attention and especially for walking Nikita and giving her a well deserved break from the puppies.
And a special thanks to Richard, Ernie and Darren for cleaning up LOTS of puppy poop and messes!! Thanks guys!
